Here is all the latest news and updates from People First
Following on from the previous rescue operation, acting on information gained the Department of Labour together with the Rajasthan Police raided the bangle factory where 65 Children from Bihar were rescued, 31 of them from Gaya District. All children have been returned to thier families.
Shockingly the average age was just 10 years old
The youngest was just seven years old.
Here is a picture of some of the children at Rescue Junction
The Children found waiting for the Calcutta to Jodphur express at Gaya Station, seen here with some of their parents have now all gone home from Rescue Junction.
After receiving extensive counseling, and securing follow up support from the local administration the children were all able to return to their village after being reunited with their families.
We now know that these children left their homes without any parental consent, having being lured away, and therefore the trafficker has now been charged with kidnapping and faces many years in Jail.
Thanks to all volunteers who participated in this years village experience programme. We will be posting a new set of photographs both on this website and on our facebook page soon.
The volunteers helped teach, worked alongside our health team, with women at our sewing centres and played games and painted murals with the children at Rescue Junction. They all gave good evaluations with some useful suggestions to make next years programme even better.
Several volunteers came from the University of Lincoln and they had raised £600, and were able to distribute many games and sports equipment to the children.
One major piece of news is that the programme will be included in next years Lonely Planet Guide for India under voluntary work for the first time.

After two and a half months at Rescue Junction a little deaf boy was reunited with his mother after going missing during a visit to a hospital in another area. Abishek was found wandering alone in a confused state near the station and was unable to say how he got there. His family feared the worst and that he had been kidnapped by a criminal gang specialising in selling body parts but after a lot of work Rescue Junction staff were able to locate his mother whose joy is evident to see.
Our Chairperson Deepak Kumar personally visited the flood affected areas of Bihar to supervise the distribution of aid materials . Although these areas are very far from our main area of work we do what we can to help through a special appeal on Global Giving .
Although the situation has improved through flood preventative measures the villagers still in constant fear of losing their homes, livestock and even their lives.
Thanks to Sam from the University of Lincoln for sending laminated photographs to villagers. They will be treasured!
